Ingredients
Scale
- 8 lb bone in spiral cut ham
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup orange juice fresh squeezed
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch of nutmeg
- cooking spray
- fresh herbs and fruit for garnish optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and coat a large baking pan with cooking spray.
- In a saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, and nutmeg over medium heat.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, cooking for 5-7 minutes until it thickens into a syrupy glaze.
- Place the ham in the prepared pan, pouring half of the glaze over it. Cover the ham tightly with foil and reserve the remaining glaze.
- Bake the ham for 2 hours, then uncover it.
- Brush the remaining glaze over the ham, reheating it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds if it has hardened.
- Raise the oven temperature to 400°F and bake the ham uncovered for another 15-20 minutes until the glaze caramelizes and browns.
- Transfer the ham to a serving platter, garnish with fresh herbs and fruit, and spoon pan drippings over it before slicing.
Notes
Ensure the ham is completely covered with foil during the initial baking to retain moisture.
Garnishing with fresh herbs can enhance both presentation and flavor.
