This Beef Burrito brings irresistible flavors and a quick prep time, featuring lean ground beef, black beans, and cheese in a warm tortilla—ideal for a comforting and homemade dinner.

- 1 tablespoon canola oil or neutral cooking oil of choice
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 small yellow or white onion (¼-inch diced)
- 1 (15-ounce) can reduced-sodium black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup prepared salsa
- 6 burrito-size flour tortillas (about 10 inches)
- 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack, sharp cheddar, or Mexican blend cheese
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Hot sauce
- Chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Swirl to coat the pan, then add the beef, pressing it into a 1/2-inch thickness. Let it sizzle for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Sprinkle in the chili powder, oregano, cumin, salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Add the diced onion on top and break the meat apart using a spoon or spatula. Cook until thoroughly browned, about 4 more minutes.
- Mix in the beans and salsa, cooking until most of the liquid has evaporated and beans are warm, about 1 minute. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- To assemble, place a tortilla on the surface, add 3 tablespoons of cheese in the center, followed by 2/3 cup of the beef mixture, and more cheese on top.
- Fold in the edges of the tortilla, then roll it up from one end to secure the filling. Repeat with the remaining tortillas.
- For serving, heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook the burrito seam-side down until golden on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes each. Serve warm with toppings.
Notes
Feel free to customize with toppings like sour cream, avocado, hot sauce, or chopped cilantro.
You can use ground turkey or chicken as a substitute for beef if preferred.
