- 1 cup whole milk, warm (about 110°F)
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet instant yeast)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 large egg (room temp)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 & ¼ cups bread flour
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted, for brushing after baking)
- Flaky salt (optional)
Instructions
- Warm the milk to about 110°F and combine yeast and sugar if using active dry yeast.
- Mix warm milk, yeast, sugar, egg, and softened butter until fully combined.
- Gradually add bread flour and salt to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel until doubled in size (about 1-1.5 hours).
- Punch down the dough, divide it into 15 pieces, and shape them into balls.
- Cover the rolls and let them rise until puffy (about 30-45 minutes).
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 17-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with flaky salt, if desired.

For gluten-free rolls, swap in gluten-free flour without compromising flavor.
