- 8 ounces spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup butter (unsalted)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
- ½ cup white wine (such as sauvignon blanc)
- 1½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water and drain.
- In a large skillet, melt the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Pour in the white wine and simmer for about 3 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Incorporate the reserved ½ cup of pasta water, stirring and simmering for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the skillet from heat.
- Stir in the grated parmesan cheese until well combined.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss everything together.
- Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes.
Notes
For added flavor, use fresh garlic instead of minced garlic from a jar.
You can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version.
Feel free to adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your spice preference.
