- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1–2 teaspoons white sugar (or to taste)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Brown the meat: Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a Dutch oven until the beef is browned and onions are translucent (6-8 minutes).
- Stir in the tomatoes: Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, sugar, salt, and pepper and mix well.
- Bring to a simmer: Increase heat to bring chili to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Spoon and serve: Ladle chili over hot dogs or serve in bowls, garnished with optional toppings.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 hours, or refrigerate for about 4 days.
For longer storage, freeze in safe containers for up to 3 months. Reheat on medium heat, adding water or broth if needed to refresh consistency.
