Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups butter (softened)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 ½ tbsp vanilla
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tbsp baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 cups confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 23 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  2. Prepare four 9-inch round cake pans by spraying them with cooking spray. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla, then beat again until well combined.
  5. Incorporate the flour, baking powder, and salt into the mixture. Beat until combined.
  6. Slowly pour in the milk while continuously beating until the batter is smooth.
  7. Divide the batter equally into four bowls.
  8. Add a different color of food coloring gel to each bowl, mixing well to achieve your desired vibrancy.
  9. Transfer each color of batter into a prepared cake pan.
  10. Bake the cakes for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Allow cakes to cool for 15 minutes before flipping them onto parchment paper. Cool completely.
  12. For the frosting, beat together the softened butter and confectioner's sugar until crumbly.
  13. Mix in the vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk; continue beating.
  14. Add more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
  15. Assemble the cake by layering each color with frosting between them.
  16. Finish by adding frosting and sprinkles on top.

Notes

Make sure the butter is softened for easier mixing.
Feel free to use your choice of food dye for a personalized touch.
If frosting is too thick, add more milk gradually.
