Description

This Spiced Gingerbread Loaf is a comforting treat with warm spices, a delightful glaze, and easy preparation, perfect for any gathering or cozy afternoon.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2/3 cup Unsulphured or Dark Molasses
  • 3/4 cup Hot Water
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Confectioners’ Sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons Orange Juice

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease an 8×4-inch or 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Whisk together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt in a bowl.
  • In another bowl, whisk molasses and hot water until smooth.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg and vanilla.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients and hot molasses mixture, mixing gently.
  • Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 50–60 minutes.
  • Cool, then drizzle with orange glaze made from confectioners’ sugar and orange juice.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients.
Consider letting the loaf sit for a day for enhanced flavor.
Experiment with adding nuts or chocolate chips.
