- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons Ground Ginger

- 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 2/3 cup Unsulphured or Dark Molasses
- 3/4 cup Hot Water
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Large Egg
- 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Confectioners’ Sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons Orange Juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease an 8×4-inch or 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt in a bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk molasses and hot water until smooth.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients and hot molasses mixture, mixing gently.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 50–60 minutes.
- Cool, then drizzle with orange glaze made from confectioners’ sugar and orange juice.
Notes
For best results, use room temperature ingredients.
Consider letting the loaf sit for a day for enhanced flavor.
Experiment with adding nuts or chocolate chips.
