These Sugar Cookie Cinnamon Rolls blend delicious sugar cookie flavor with classic cinnamon roll decadence, topped with creamy icing and colorful sprinkles, making them a delightful addition to any meal or celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk, warmed to 110℉
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • a sprinkle of sugar for the yeast
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3 1/2 cups + 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon + 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup Christmas sprinkles
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, light or dark, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300℉ and spread flour over a cookie sheet.
  • Heat milk to 110℉ and activate yeast with a sprinkle of sugar for 10 minutes.
  • Combine dry ingredients and mix with heated milk and yeast, egg, and butter.
  • Knead the dough until smooth and tacky, then let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  • Prepare cookie dough while dough rises, mixing necessary ingredients.
  • Combine ingredients for cinnamon filling in a bowl.
  • Roll out the dough, spread the filling, add cookie dough bits, and roll tightly.
  • Cut into rolls, let rise, and bake at 375℉ for 25-28 minutes.
  • Make cream cheese icing while rolls bake, then ice and serve.

Notes

Make sure the milk is warmed but not hot, as this can kill the yeast.
You can use vegan cream cheese for a dairy-free icing alternative.
These rolls can be prepared in advance and stored for convenience.
