- ¼ cup unsalted butter frozen & grated
- 1½ cups grated apple granny smith, gala, or pink lady
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large egg cold
- â…” cup heavy whipping cream cold
- ½ cup cinnamon sweet bits store bought or make your own
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the grated apple, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the grated butter and mix until crumbly.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg and heavy cream.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the cinnamon sweet bits.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead.
- Shape the dough into a circle and cut into wedges.
- Place the wedges onto the prepared baking sheet and brush with milk if desired.
- Bake until golden brown and serve fresh.
Notes
For a sweeter taste, add more granulated sugar or serve with jam.
These scones are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days.
