Description

Enjoy the delightful flavors of homemade Apple Fritter Bread. This easy recipe features tender gala apples and warm spices, making it a perfect choice for breakfast, dessert, or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/22 cups gala apples peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir well to combine and break up any lumps.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix melted butter and vanilla, then pour over the dry ingredients. Toss until crumbly and mix thoroughly.
  3. Cover the mixture and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up the crumbs.
  4. Prepare the apple filling by combining chopped gala apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg in a bowl. Set aside.
  5. In a large bowl, use a mixer to cream the room temperature unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Add in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the sour cream and milk until just combined.
  7. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  8. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  9. To assemble, layer half of the batter in a greased loaf pan, add the apple filling, then top with the remaining batter, swirling slightly to combine.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool, then drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.

Notes

Allow the Apple Fritter Bread to cool completely before glazing for the best results.
You can substitute other apple varieties if preferred, but gala apples add great sweetness and texture.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
