Description
This Apple Turnovers recipe features flaky puff pastry filled with sweet, caramelized apples and spices. Perfect for dessert or a cozy treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (2 sheets) Puff Pastry, Thawed
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 3 medium Apples (Peeled, Cored & Diced)
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 tbsp Flour
- 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
- 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1–2 tbsp Milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Thaw Puff Pastry while preparing the filling.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook until softened, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low, then mix in brown sugar and cinnamon, simmering for 3 minutes until apples are caramelized. Remove from heat and cool.
- Flour the counter and roll out the first sheet of Puff Pastry into an 11" square. Cut into 4 equal squares.
- Place the cooled apple filling on half of each square, ensuring to leave a 1/2" border.
- Whisk together egg and water for the egg wash. Brush the edges of the pastry to seal, crimping with a fork.
- Repeat the process with the second sheet of Puff Pastry.
- Place the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced 1" apart. Cut 2-3 small slits in the tops to prevent leaking.
- Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed.
- For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar with milk to the desired consistency, then drizzle over the turnovers.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the apple filling.
Ensure the puff pastry is thoroughly thawed for best results.
Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain crispiness.
