Ingredients
Scale
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
- 1–2 tablespoons buffalo hot sauce
- 1 lb. cooked noodles
Instructions
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
- Once melted, whisk in the flour, stirring continuously for 1-2 minutes until it resembles wet sand.
- Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for 4-6 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese gradually, whisking until melted.
- Add the garlic, buffalo hot sauce, and salt; taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Toss the sauce with warm cooked noodles immediately and serve.
Notes
For a spicier version, increase the amount of buffalo sauce according to taste.
Using freshly shredded cheese will yield a creamier sauce compared to pre-shredded cheese.
Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
