- 6 granny smith apples, cut into 1/2" pieces
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice and mix well to coat them.
- Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples, tossing until evenly coated, then transfer to a 9" pie plate.
- Drizzle about 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the apple mixture and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, 1/2 cup flour, light brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and oats. Mix well until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly, then drizzle additional caramel on top before serving.
Notes
For a twist, try adding walnuts or pecans to the oat topping for extra crunch.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
