Description

This Caramel Apple Crisp with Crunchy Oat Topping offers a delightful combination of flavors and textures. Featuring tender granny smith apples and a sweet, crunchy oat topping, it’s the perfect easy dessert to serve at gatherings or for a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 granny smith apples, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice and mix well to coat them.
  3. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples, tossing until evenly coated, then transfer to a 9" pie plate.
  4. Drizzle about 1/2 cup of caramel sauce over the apple mixture and set aside.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, 1/2 cup flour, light brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and oats. Mix well until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly, then drizzle additional caramel on top before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try adding walnuts or pecans to the oat topping for extra crunch.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
