- 3 granny smith apples
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar
- 12 ounces pound cake
- 8 ounces cool whip
- 6 tablespoons caramel sauce
Instructions
- Peel and chop the apples into small cubes and place them in a medium saucepan.
- Add the lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar to the apples and stir well.
- Simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples soften and the sugar forms a syrup.
- Set the mixture aside to cool.
- Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes and place them in your serving glasses.
- Fill a piping bag with Cool Whip and prepare for layering.
- Layer pound cake cubes in the serving glasses.
- Spoon the apple mixture over the pound cake, then drizzle with caramel sauce.
- Pipe on a layer of Cool Whip on top of the caramel.
- Repeat the layers: pound cake, apples, caramel, and Cool Whip.
- Finish with a drizzle of caramel over the top and serve immediately or refrigerate.
Notes
Feel free to use any cake for this dish, such as white or angel food cake.
You can adjust the sweetness of the apples by adding more or less brown sugar.
These trifles can be prepared a few hours in advance for easy serving.
