Description
This Crockpot Apple Butter features irresistible flavors and simple prep with fresh apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Ideal for toasts or gifts!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 lb (1400g) apples (fuji, gala, honeycrisp, red delicious or similar)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Slice and core the apples, optionally peeling them, and cut them into small chunks.
- Place the apples in a 7qt slow cooker. Add both sugars and cinnamon, then toss to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours, until apples look translucent (approximately 4 hours).
- Blend the cooked apples and their liquid using a hand blender until smooth. Alternatively, use a regular blender in batches, ensuring not to overfill due to hot contents.
- Once blended, return the mixture to the slow cooker. Continue cooking on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour until it reaches desired thickness.
- Stir in salt and vanilla. Allow to cool before placing in jars or freezer containers. Can refrigerate for up to 2 weeks if not canned.
Notes
For smoother apple butter, blend thoroughly until desired consistency is achieved.
Using a variety of apples will enhance the flavor profile of your apple butter.
Store in sterilized jars if canning for longer preservation.
