Description

Crockpot Sloppy Joes bring irresistible flavor and convenience to your table. With tender ground beef, zesty sauce, and simple prep, it’s the ideal comfort food for a quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced, optional
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups ketchup
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
  • Burger buns
  • Pickles
  • Shredded cheddar
  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or slow cooker, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat until cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper, cooking for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly softened. Stir in the minced garlic, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Transfer the cooked meat mixture to the slow cooker.
  4. In the slow cooker, combine ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired. Stir well to mix.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours, or on high for 2 to 3 hours until the mixture is thick and flavorful.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. If too loose, cook uncovered on high for 15 to 20 minutes to thicken.
  7. Serve on toasted buns with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For a healthier version, use ground turkey instead of beef.
Feel free to top your Sloppy Joes with your favorite toppings, like coleslaw or shredded cheese.
Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
