Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange food coloring
  • purple food coloring
  • green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch in a medium bowl, then set aside.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl using an electric mixer for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, then stir in the sour cream.
  4. Incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined—do not overmix.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles with a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8–9 minutes until barely baked for that soft texture.
  9. Allow cookies to cool completely before frosting.
  10. Beat the butter for the frosting until fluffy, then mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually add milk until achieving a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  12. Color the frosting into three bowls with food coloring as desired and frost each cookie using a piping bag or spatula.
  13. Top with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Make sure to chill the dough to enhance the cookie’s texture.
You can experiment with different food coloring for extra fun!
Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
