Description

Experience the delightful taste of homemade Hawaiian Rolls with their soft, sweet flavor. This easy recipe combines simple ingredients like pineapple juice and sugar for perfect rolls that are ideal for any meal or occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup pineapple juice, canned, room temperature
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed to 100-110°f
  • 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 ¾ – 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, mix the pineapple juice, warm milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, and yeast until combined.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour and 3 cups of the bread flour. Mix until a rough dough forms. Incorporate the salt, then gradually add the remaining bread flour until the dough is slightly sticky yet manageable.
  3. Knead the dough for 4-5 minutes using a stand mixer or 8-10 minutes by hand on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  4. Lightly grease a large bowl, place the dough inside, cover with plastic wrap or a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 ½ hours, until it doubles in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide it into 15 equal pieces, and shape each into a smooth ball by pinching the bottom to create surface tension.
  6. Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, leaving space between each. Brush the tops with eggwash, cover, and let them rise for about 1 hour until puffy and touching.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 18-20 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops immediately with melted butter. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Ensure the milk is at the right temperature for yeast activation, around 100-110°F.
For a sweeter roll, you can adjust the sugar ratio as preferred.
These rolls can be stored in an airtight container for a few days and reheated as needed.
