Instructions
- Cut onions in half from root to tip and remove the root in a V-shape.
- Thinly slice the onion halves into about ¼-inch thick half moons and place them in a bowl.
- In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter and olive oil, swirling to coat the bottom.
- Add a handful of onions to the pot, stirring until soft and translucent, about 2 minutes.
- Continue adding onions in batches and sauté until soft.
- Lower the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 45-50 minutes until deep brown and jammy.
- Once browned, mix in the brown sugar and salt, cooking for another 5-7 minutes until combined.
