Description
This Italian Burger brings together juicy beef and Italian sausages topped with crispy prosciutto and garlic Parmesan mayo. It’s easy to prepare, full of flavor, and ideal for a quick, satisfying dinner or a delightful weekend treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 700g / 24 oz ground beef, 5% fat
- 300g / 10 oz Italian sausages, casings removed
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 egg
- 6 slices prosciutto
- 1/2 red onion, sliced (optional)
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 tbsp basil pesto
- 6 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 3 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated
- 6 Romaine lettuce leaves
- 6 burger buns
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, Italian sausages, beaten egg, and salt gently. Divide the mixture into 6 parts and roll into balls, then flatten to about 1 inch thick, making them slightly larger than the buns.
- Press an indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking. Chill the patties in the fridge for at least 1 hour or in the freezer for 30 minutes to help maintain their shape.
- For the prosciutto, preheat the oven to 200C/400F and arrange the slices on a parchment-lined baking dish. Bake for 6-8 minutes until crispy, ensuring they are not too flat.
- Mix the mayonnaise with grated garlic and Parmesan cheese; set aside. Prepare the toppings by slicing the onions and tomatoes.
- Grill the patties for 5 minutes on each side, taking care to avoid pressing down on them. Add cheese on top for the last minute of grilling, covering to let it melt. Lightly toast the buns on the grill towards the end cooking time.
- To assemble, spread basil pesto on the bottom of each bun, add lettuce, place the patty, then top with red onion (if using), crispy prosciutto, and tomato. Spread garlic Parmesan mayo on the top bun and close the burger.
Notes
Chilling the patties helps them keep their shape while grilling.
Crispy prosciutto can be made ahead of time and stored for later use.
Be cautious with the grilling time to ensure the meat is cooked through without burning.
