- 1 small seedless watermelon or 1/2 of a large watermelon
- 8 apples
- ½ yellow honeydew melon
- 4 cups strawberries, stems removed
- 2 cups raspberries
- 2 cups blueberries
- 1 cup red grapes
- 1 cup blackberries
- lemon juice for soaking apples, 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of water
Instructions
- Wash all the fruits thoroughly and let them dry.
- Cut the watermelon, apples, and honeydew melon into small squares. Slice the strawberries in halves, quarters, or simply remove the tops depending on their size. If you won’t serve immediately, soak the sliced apples in a mixture of 1 tablespoon of lemon juice per 1 cup of water for at least 10 minutes.
- Arrange blueberries and blackberries at the top left of the serving dish to start creating a flag design. Layer with the red, white, red, white, and red fruits in horizontal lines until the dish is filled or all the fruits are arranged.
- Finally, rescue one apple to use with a star cookie cutter. Cut out stars from the apple and place them atop the blueberries to finish your festive fruit flag.
Notes
For added zest, mix a splash of orange juice with the lemon juice for soaking the apples.
Feel free to adjust fruit types based on availability, such as using peaches or any red fruits you prefer!
