Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup + 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup + 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp + 1 tsp pure vanilla extract for frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • Brown gel food dye, optional

Instructions

  • Sift dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg.
  • Beat butter and sugars until pale and fluffy, then mix in molasses, egg, and vanilla.
  • Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  • Form cookie dough balls and roll in sugar before chilling for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 14-16 minutes until edges are set.
  • Cool on pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.
  • Prepare cream cheese frosting and decorate cookies as desired.
