Description

This Apple Pie boasts a deliciously sweet filling with perfectly spiced apples nestled in a flaky, homemade crust. Ideal for gatherings or cozy nights, it’s the comfort food everyone craves!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Butter, Cold & Diced
  • 7 tbsp Cold Water
  • 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water for Egg Wash
  • 7 cups Apples (Peeled, Cored & Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor and pulse to blend.
  2. Add cold diced butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water while pulsing until moist clumps form. Transfer dough to parchment paper, divide, form into balls, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Prepare apples by peeling, coring, and slicing to yield 7 cups. Toss with cinnamon in a large bowl.
  4. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, whisk in flour, and simmer for 1 minute. Add water and sugar, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes, whisking frequently. Remove from heat.
  5. Pour sauce over apple slices and mix to coat well.
  6. Roll out bottom crust to a 12-inch circle on a floured surface and transfer to a 9-inch pie plate.
  7. Layer the apple mixture evenly in the crust without getting filling on the edges.
  8. Roll the second crust to an 11-inch round and cut into 10 strips. Arrange in a lattice pattern on top, trimming edges as needed. Pinch or fork the edges to seal.
  9. Whisk egg with water, then brush over the crust.
  10. Bake in the center of the oven at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes, edges covered. Lower heat to 350 degrees F, remove covers, and bake for another 40-45 minutes, checking every 10-15 minutes for doneness.

Notes

For a sweeter pie, consider using more sugar in the apple filling.
Ensure butter is cold to achieve a flaky crust.
Adjust baking times based on your oven’s performance.
