Description

These homemade garlic rolls are bursting with flavor and easy to prepare. Made with simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, butter, and garlic powder, they make the perfect addition to any meal or a tasty snack on their own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ¾ to 5 ¼ cups (589-651g) all-purpose flour
  • â…“ cup (67g) granulated sugar
  • 2 envelopes instant yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ¾ cup (177ml) milk
  • ¾ cup (177ml) water
  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl and whisk together.
  2. Heat milk, water, and ¼ cup butter until very warm (120° to 130°F) and pour into the flour mixture. Mix for 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping the bowl as needed.
  3. Add egg and ½ cup of flour, beating for another 2 minutes at high speed.
  4. Gradually mix in enough remaining flour to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it's smooth and elastic, which should take about 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. For make-ahead rolls, place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours.
  8. Divide the dough and roll each half into a 12-inch square that is ¼-inch thick.
  9. Cut each square into 6 strips, and then into 3 rectangles.
  10. Mix the filling ingredients in a small bowl.
  11. Brush each rectangle with the melted butter mixture, fold, and roll into a spiral. Arrange on greased baking sheets, overlapping slightly.
  12. Cover the rolls and let them rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  13. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  14. Bake the rolls for 13 to 15 minutes, until golden. Cool on a wire rack and brush the remaining butter mixture on top.
  15. Store rolls in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding fresh herbs to the butter mixture before brushing the rolls.
If the dough is too sticky during kneading, gradually add a bit more flour as needed.
These rolls can be frozen for up to a month; just reheat in the oven before serving.
